Create a Facebook Fundraiser for my local food bank or other nonprofit organization.
Actions include giving “sick pay” no interest loan to your housekeeper by paying them not to come clean this week, contacting your congressional representatives and asking them to accelerate funding support for small businesses owners and workers, gig workers and others that need help now, creating a Facebook page fundraiser to support those in need.
The incremental time for these actions range from less than one minute to whatever time you wish to give.
There are little to no costs for most of these actions.
Give a no interest loan or sick pay to your housekeeper by paying them not to come this week. You can either forgive the loan or let them pay it back by deducting a small amount from each cleaning when the virus is under control.
Order takeout from my local independent restaurant.
Call your national, state and local representatives and demand they provide economic, health and safety support to all essential workers.
If you have friends who are faith workers, please keep in touch with them, make sure they are taking care of themselves and ask them what you can do for them or anyone they serve who is being affected by the virus and its consequences.
Homeless people and families are some of the most vulnerable and hardest hit by the Covid-19 virus. Please consider finding a homeless shelter near you and contact them to ask what you can do to help.
Small businesses and their workers are really hurting during this crisis. Please consider giving a larger tip than usual to local restaurants and small businesses. As a guideline, government officials are proposing funding to give all healthcare and essential business workers a 50% bonus until we all get through this together.
Nearly 60 million Americans are still working to keep our internet running, to deliver our groceries, to make sure we have electricity, and to care for the sick. Sadly, many employers are not giving their front-line employees masks, sterile gloves or other things they need to stay safe and healthy to benefit all of us.
Please contact your elected officials and demand they support an essential workers Bill of Rights that includes:
- Health and safety protections.
- Robust premium compensation.
- Protections for collective bargaining agreements
- Truly universal paid sick leave and family and medical leave.
- Protections for whistle blowers.
- An end to worker misclassification.
- Health care security.
- Support for childcare.
- Treat workers as experts.
- Hold corporations accountable for meeting their responsibilities.
If you have access to masks and gloves, please consider giving them to front line workers whose employers are not providing it for them.
If you know anyone who is living alone, please call them frequently.
